Sometimes simple is best. In the early days of being raw, I used to hear people talking about green drinks and I hadn't a clue what they meant. I came to understand it was just the juice of green vegetables, but I still wasn't sure which ones. Now I have green juice every day and it's an integral part of my daily routine, I wouldn't be without it. Here is my basic recipe. If I sat and tried to eat my way through this many vegetables every day, it would take me a long time and I'd end up with a tummy ache from all that fibre. By juicing, I get all my nutrients in an assimilable form, with no pressure on my digestion.
- 1 cucumber
- 4 sticks celery
- 1/2 lettuce
- handful spinach or rocket
- 1 lemon, peeled
- sprig herbs eg parsley, coriander, dill, mint, basil
- 1cm root ginger
Prepare your veg for the blender. Put the cucumber and lemon in first. Once they are liquid, then you can add in the other ingredients. If you're having trouble, add a little water or nut milk. Once they are blended, pour through the milk bag into a bowl. Squeeze gently until all the juice is in the bowl. Drink straightaway.
You can watch my juicing video on YouTube here. This method is a little less conventional, but it's much quicker, there's so little wastage, and it means you don't have to wash the juicer afterwards!
