Revered since time immemorial, chocolate has a history as rich as its’ delectable taste and fragrance. It was a favorite drink and medicinal remedy of the Mayan and Aztec cultures of Central America, which date back to 2600 BCE and the 12th century AD, respectively.

In Aztec culture, the seeds or beans of the cacao plant were used as currency and to make a sacred drink called Xocoatl. Roasted corn flour was combined with roasted cacao seeds, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, and hot chilies to create a savory, delicious brew. Consuming chocolate as a beverage was an incredible privilege only enjoyed by royalty and high priests. Xocoatl was a known stimulant and aphrodisiac associated with the Aztec god Xochipilli, who was the god of music, poetry, and spirituality.

Cacao Absolute contains three different compounds that are similar in composition to Anandamide, a neurotransmitter in the brain that is responsible for feelings of happiness.  Other compounds found in chocolate have been shown to prevent the breakdown of Anandamide in the brain, further helping to eliminate depression and anxiety.

Spiritually, Cacao Absolute invokes a strong sense of divinity and the sacred. There is perhaps no other pure-plant offering so powerful, and so comprehensive, in terms of its joy for human beings.

When you add a few drops of this distilled chocolate nectar to a massage oil, bath or perfume, you are opening a direct olfactory connection to pure chocolate divinity; the spirits of the ancient Aztecs and their poet-god Xochipilli are conjured to convene in the ritual consumption of “the food of the gods.”
