Really Raw Porridge
Oats are a fantastic food, providing a calm and balanced source of energy. They make a great breakfast food as they do not affect the blood sugar, so you can keep going until lunchtime without a mid-morning slump. We used to use organic oat groats but they are steamed to stabilize them at temperatures high enough to destroy the enzyme content. We searched and we searched, but it proved impossible to track down raw oats in the UK for a long time, so we used to import them from the USA, would you believe! Now happily we have sourced raw oats in Surrey which are even better and fresher.
Time needed: 20 mins soaking, 5 mins preparation
Equipment needed: blender
- 2 cups raw rolled oats
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tbsp agave
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- pinch Himalayan crystal salt
- 1 cup (250ml) pure water
Presoak the oats for 20 mins in pure water. Drain them and then either add them to the blender with all the other ingredients and whizz to a smooth creamy porridge, or just put them in a bowl and stir them together for a chewier porridge.
You can always add 1-2 tsp Raw Chocolate Powder to liven things up a bit.
