At Raw Living, we have been using Amla in this way for many years and we are passionate about bringing this new class of foods to you, and showing you how you can introduce them into your kitchen. Amla fruit is often referred to as Indian gooseberry. It's Sanskrit name 'amlaki' means 'sustainer', or The Fruit where the Goddess of Prosperity Resides'

It is one of the richest known sources of vitamin C it contains 30 times the amount found in oranges, and contains naturally occuring bioflavinoids which aid in the absorbtion of vitamin C.

It also contains powerful antioxidants, which help protect you from harmful free radicals that can increase the risk of a wide range of unpleasant diseases.

It is regarded as sacred by Indian and Tibetan healers who believe it has special anti-ageing and immune enhancing properties. Traditionally, healers have used the dried fruit to help overcome a wide range of problems, and generally Amla extracts have been found to have a calming, soothing effect, which can help combat stress.

Amla fruit is revered by Ayurvedic (ancient Indian) practitioners, because it is Tridosaghna, it has a unique balance of all tastes, stimulating the brain to rebalance the three main components of all physiological functions, the water, air, and fire elements within the body (Bajracharya). Extensive research is revealing that it is beneficial in preventing and treating many conditions including stress, hay fever, arthritis, cataracts, and even cancer.
There are no known contraindications, but as always you should check with your practitioner before taking it especially if you are already on any medication.

Recommended dosage for Amla: 250-500 mg (about 1/2 tsp) two times a day after a meal.
