Organic Brazil kernels, from Bolivia. The Brazil nuts are seeds of the South American Brazil nut tree.

The tree of the Brazil nut belongs to the family Lecythidaceae, is approximately 50 meters high and can obtain a diameter of 6 meters. It exclusively flourishes in the dense rain forests of South America, to be precise, in the Brazilian Amazonian lowlands till the foothills of the Andes (Bolivia, Colombia and Peru). In these protected forests, the wild growing trees of Brazil nuts can live for more than 300 years.

Every attempt to cultivate outside the Amazonian rain forest has failed. Moreover, it is not known for how long the trees of Brazil nut have been already there. However it is known that in year 1800, Alexander von Humboldt came to know about this tree during his journey to what is called Venezuela today and also gave it the scientific name ‘Bertholletia excelsa’.

The Brazil nuts are nut fruits, which are commercially known as dryfruit or nuts. The Brazil nuts are also known as Amazon almond, Marahon chestnut, Amazonian chestnut or Brazilian chestnut as well as Brazilian nut. The Brazil nuts are spread almost in the entire region of Amazon from which the name has been derived. The Nama Brazil nut has also been derived from the Brazilian state of Pará, which is adjacent to the Amazon region.

The fruits are harvested in the rainy season from November to March. During this time, the Brazil nuts that have fallen down are manually collected and then opened with a machete to open the nuts. The nuts are washed before they are dried under high temperatures. The nuts are carefully sorted and handpicked in the so-called collection centers. Harvesting, drying and sorting is done under high hygiene standards and with great care.  Then they are tested in batches and checked for Aflatoxin (Standard Aflatoxin Test) by independent accredited Austrian laboratories. Finally, our Brazil nuts are subject to laser cleaning in order to ensure that we provide you only the best organic Brazil nuts. For this purpose, the Brazil nuts are laser cleaned several times by the company AFS (All Food Services) in St. Pölten (Lower Austria) by means of most modern equipments. The Laser cleaning system ensures that only the best and purest products are brought in the market. All unsatisfactorily dried and probably damaged products are removed. Even the existing residuals like small stones, leaves, stems, soil, wood and other debris from the selected goods is removed by laser cleaning.
