He Shou Wu (100g)
He Shou Wu is also known as Foti root, Fo-ti-teng, or Ho Shou Wu.. He Shou Wu is an ancient Chinese remedy, and like Reishi, is classed as a Superior Tonic Herb in Chinese medicine. He Shou Wu is the most amazing longevity tonic of all. It is widely used in Chinese herbal medicine to prevent premature aging by tonifying the Kidney and Liver functions. He Shou Wu is also is known to bring up Jing (vital essence), nourishing the blood, and fortifying the muscles, tendons and bones. It strengthens and stabilizes the lower back and knees. He Shou Wu is also used to enhance sexual drive and fertility in men and women.
Mention of He Shou Wu can be found in the Chinese medical treatise dating to 713 AD, though it is not the earliest tonic herb listed in the Chinese herbal lore, its wide and prevalent use today has certainly made it one of the better known herbs. Millions of men and women make use of He Shou Wu in the Far East, they take it for its supposed rejuvenating and toning abilities
The greatest use for He Shou Wu is in the role of a general tonic for the liver and kidneys of people with renal or hepatic problems. It cleanses the blood by directly strengthening the functioning of the liver and the kidneys; this action enables the chi within the body to circulate freely inside the person and leads to improved health.
Individuals who show physical signs of premature aging, such as premature greying of hair and wrinkling of skin are often prescribed He Shou Wu as a first step. The main reason for the use of the herb is that it will help the body of the person function in a much better balanced and healthy manner. This is one of the main uses of the herb in Chinese medicine.
The name of this herb literally means "Black-haired Mr. He," in reference to an ancient story of a Mr. He who restored his vitality, sexual potency, and youthful appearance by taking the herb now named after him.
While we aren't sure if this is the same person... He Shouwu, a Chinese man, is reputed to have lived until the age of 132, and is the first consumer of this herb to be reported.
NB he shou wu is heat treated in preparation, so it is not a raw ingredient.
